Role Models and Accomplishments

There's a lack of highlighting the personal and professional accomplishments of those with IBD. Here we highlight some of our awesome PAC members and alumni, their role models, and what accomplishments they're most proud of.

What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?

Listed by PAC members. Some responses were given by multiple patients. All responses have been de-personalized for patient privacy.

  • "Pursuing my goal of becoming a pediatric GI psychologist"

  • "Staying alive, I've been through so much and still continue to fight, which I personally find quite impressive"

  • "Being an advocate for IBD through the PAC and as a student athlete in college. If I've ever inspired anyone with IBD to believe in themselves or try something challenging with IBD, it was worth all the pain and hours of work"

  • "Overcoming my health challenges and continuously pushing to follow my dream. I'm proud of myself for never giving up, and I can't wait to be a nurse."

  • "Internalizing my difficult journey with IBD in a positive way."

  • "I'm proud of the hard work I do in therapy to work on my anxiety and self-compassion. Mental health is incredible stigmatized, especially in the South Asian community, so I'm really proud and immensely grateful that I am able to get the mental health support I need!"

  • "Becoming a mom"

  • "I started running just around the time I was diagnosed, and while several flares over the years have made it hard for me to keep running, I am proud of my persistence at getting back up and out there after every challenge. When I run, I feel strong, which reminds me how capable I am of accomplishing anything."

  • "Traveling by myself in Europe and hiking 5 peaks in one day with a total of 17 miles and 6,000 ft of climbing"

  • "Mentoring others through involvement at my hospital"
